I have also included information regarding the number of years that each councillor has currently been in office, as well as the number of couples on Tameside Council following the last local elections.
It should be noted that having two members of the same household can generate thousands of £'s in Allowances; whilst maybe it's not really surprising that many of them wouldn't want to set any limit on the number of terms that any councillor can serve in office!
Councillors' claim top £1.2m
Interestingly, a letter in this week's Advertiser (Readers Letters, "Cuts hinder our councils", p24) written by Tameside Labour Council's Deputy Leader, Councillor John Taylor, contained the following statement: "We have been in Wythenshawe for weeks at the by-election.......".
What I want to know is how councillors - who are elected and paid to represent and work for this borough - can spend weeks at a by-election in the south of Greater Manchester; especially when, only last year, many of them were over in Derbyshire helping to save Glossop's Victoria Library after closing many of the libraries across Tameside?

They were busy getting Michael Kane, political adviser to Tameside council’s leader Kieran Quinn, back on the Gravy train. He previously worked for current Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds - as well as his predecessor, former minister James Purnell.
ReplyDeleteIt begs the question, who will the mighty Quinn get to advise him now? Let's hope it's not the same person who thinks Ashton's Christmas market was a great financial success!
