The Local Elections are also on Thursday 7th May. |
With all the current television and newspaper coverage, it is easy to forget that - as well as the General Election - there is also a Local Election on Thursday 7th May.
Local councillors – the very same people who have increased our Council Tax by 1.9% this year, who have voted to close down libraries and Children’s Centres for lack of money; but who are building a new expensive Town Hall in Ashton – are hoping that the General Election will divert attention away from themselves by focusing attention instead upon the national issues.
There are so many problems in Denton South. Our roads and pavements are in need of urgent repair and much needs to be done to make them safer. There is too much litter and dog-muck and many of our streets are a disgrace.
Crime and vandalism have increased in many parts of Denton South – with attacks on shops and both public and private property, vandalism of vehicles and bus stops. Many roads are often used as race-tracks by inconsiderate drivers.
I believe that the time has come for DENTON to have its own Town Council with elected, unpaid councillors (similar to that currently being campaigned for in Stalybridge) with powers devolved from Tameside Council. This will give the people of Denton a much greater say on issues affecting our local community!
I live in Denton South with my wife Eleanor and our two-year-old daughter, Tara. I work as a Health Mentor in local schools as an employee of the NHS. Both Eleanor and I are active volunteers in our local community.
You will have 2 votes on Thursday 7th May – 1 vote for the General Election and 1 for the Local. Last year I came within only 75 votes of being elected.
THIS TIME - YOUR VOTE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
If you wish to see what an INDEPENDENT Councillor can do for this area over the next four years, then please use your Local Election vote for Carl Simmons on Thursday 7th May 2015.

As usual I support your enthusiasm and promote your campaign as often as I can within the community that I am actively involved in. Whilst on duty as a carer in the Forrest road, Dixon road area of Haughton Green yesterday, some of the local residents received your promotional material. You may be aware that many of the residents in this area are elderly and unable to travel very far on foot. It seems you seem to have a few interested voters eager to vote for you from the feedback I have received, again as I suggested last year, if you were able to provide transport to the local polling station, they would vote for you. I know there is the option of postal votes, but many of the elderly say they don't trust the postal system for security reason, and would rather not vote unless they could get to the polling station. Kind Regards Jonathan Howson
