LOCAL ISSUES - FROM THE LOCAL INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE FOR DENTON SOUTH!

Local Issues from Carl Simmons - Independent Candidate for Denton South.
Most people will be aware of my campaign to reform the unfair and unaccountable system that governs Tameside Council. However, there are other pressing concerns that affect the people of Denton South every day.

I believe these issues deserve my utmost attention if you elect me as your Councillor in the LOCAL ELECTIONS on the 7th May.

POTHOLES IN ROADS & CRACKS IN PAVEMENTS in Denton South are in an increasingly bad state and many roads are in serious need of repair. All complaints to the council must be taken seriously and acted upon.  In order to ensure people's complaints are dealt with I will be monitoring and following up on all complaints given to me, ensuring that the Council are maintaining the roads to the highest of standards, minimising and reducing all risks of personal injury and damage to vehicles.

SAFETY ON OUR ROADS. Too many roads in Denton South are being used as race-tracks by inconsiderate drivers. It should not be
acceptable for driving crimes to go unnoticed and for drivers to break the law! Tameside Council can do so much more to make our roads safer. That's why I am proposing the installation of working CCTV/Speed Cameras and to establish Pedestrian Crossings where needed because, as the way things are, it will only be a matter of time before there is a serious accident. OUR ROADS MUST BE MADE SAFE AT ALL TIMES OF THE DAY!

You will have 2 votes on Thursday 7th May - 1 vote for
the General Election and 1 for the LOCAL ELECTION.

Last year, I came within only 75 votes of being elected.

THIS TIME YOUR VOTE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

LITTER & DOG-FOULING on our streets has become a real problem and health concern for all because of the anti-social behaviour of a few individuals. The council must do more to raise awareness of the health and environmental problems caused by such actions. We must have our public bins emptied more often and on a regular basis. More public waste bins are also needed in the area and Tameside Council should bring back the
Environmental Patroller service to work in our community and enforce the penalties to full effect on dog-fouling offenders. The council's clean up team need to be in action within good time (every 5-6 weeks is not acceptable). When dog-fouling incidents arise, priority should be given to the surrounding areas of our schools, our elderly and especially our vulnerable residents.

CRIME & VANDALISM have increased in many parts of Denton South - with attacks on both public and private property,
vandalism of vehicles and bus shelters. I believe that Councillors should be taking the lead and there should be much more
co-operation between the Police, Council and Housing
Associations, working with residents in order to deter crime and
anti-social behaviour in our area.  It is time that they started working together to ensure a safe environment for all members of the local community!

THIS TIME YOUR VOTE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The Local Elections are also on Thursday 7th May.

With all the current television and newspaper coverage, it is easy to forget that - as well as the General Election - there is also a Local Election on Thursday 7th May.

Local councillors – the very same people who have increased our Council Tax by 1.9% this year, who have voted to close down libraries and Children’s Centres for lack of money; but who are building a new expensive Town Hall in Ashton – are hoping that the General Election will divert attention away from themselves by focusing attention instead upon the national issues.

There are so many problems in Denton South. Our roads and pavements are in need of urgent repair and much needs to be done to make them safer. There is too much litter and dog-muck and many of our streets are a disgrace.

Crime and vandalism have increased in many parts of Denton South – with attacks on shops and both public and private property, vandalism of vehicles and bus stops. Many roads are often used as race-tracks by inconsiderate drivers.

I believe that the time has come for DENTON to have its own Town Council with elected, unpaid councillors (similar to that currently being campaigned for in Stalybridge) with powers devolved from Tameside Council. This will give the people of Denton a much greater say on issues affecting our local community!

I live in Denton South with my wife Eleanor and our two-year-old daughter, Tara. I work as a Health Mentor in local schools as an employee of the NHS. Both Eleanor and I are active volunteers in our local community.

You will have 2 votes on Thursday 7th May – 1 vote for the General Election and 1 for the Local. Last year I came within only 75 votes of being elected.

THIS TIME - YOUR VOTE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
